Peak Performance: How to Become an Expert at Anything

How does a chess grandmaster sift through a staggering array of future moves before picking the best one? How does an Olympic gymnast shift their body perfectly as they somersault through the air? How does any world-class performer become... world-class?

These questions were answered by those who know what it takes. The renowned Swedish psychologist Anders Ericsson, dubbed the “world’s reigning expert in expertise”, has made it his life’s work to explore what differentiates those with great minds and bodies from the rest. Dame Katherine Grainger, a former Olympic rowing champion, lived the experience of becoming the best at her trade. She now leads UK Sport, the high-performance body dedicated to plotting a path for the country’s best medal hopes. In conversation with Murad Ahmed, FT Sports Correspondent, they explained how anyone can think and train to reach the top of their game.
